Captain America is the alter ego of Steve Rogers, who was a frail young man who wanted to fight in the war. He became part of an experiment to help aid the United States and was injected with an experimental serum which would enhance him into peak physical condition. This was done to help give the US a super soldier to help win World War II.Captain America is seen wearing a costume that bears an American flag motif. He always carries a shield that also resembles the American glad design. His shield is indestructible and is not only used to defend against his enemies, but can also be thrown like a boomerang and used as a weapon.
History of the Comic Book
Captain America was an intentionally patriotic character created and released during World War II. In the comic series, he was often depicted fighting the axis powers. Captain America was Timely Comcs' most popular character, during the war. However, his popularity quickly faded after the war was finished and the comic book series was discontinued.
Captain America was reintroduced by Marvel Comics during the silver age of comics as an MIA soldier who was retrieved by the Avengers from an iceberg. He first appeared again in Avengers #4 (1964), a key comic in the series. Since his new re-introduction, Captain America has often led the Avengers team as well starred in several of his own series of comics again.
The First Marvel Character Adapted to Film!
In 1944, Captain America became the first Marvel Comics character to be featured in a medium other than printed comics. He was in the movie serial Captain America. Since then, he has been in several other films including the more recent releases Captain America and The Avengers released in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
